Interior designers, Business owners and Mother- daughter duo! Doralicia Ceballos (Mom) & Dennia Jones (Daughter) are the owners of Design by DLC. Having worked together for over 10 years they have perfected the art of working with family. Find out how this duo got started and how they settle design disagreements. Q: How long have you been an interior designer? How long have you been designing as a mother and daughter team?

Dennia Jones: My decision to start my career in design came from my mom. She was an entrepreneur and in the design industry growing up, she started her design business in early 2000’s so it inspired me to choose the same path. I started working with my mom in college while in design school and would assist her with projects. We later became business partners and have continued to work together since 2009.

Q: What is your design aesthetic?

DLC Team: Our design aesthetic can be summed up in three words. FRESH, FUNCTIONAL, and COHESIVE. Our design aesthetic has definitely evolved over the years and we always come back to these three words. Fresh bright spaces that are functional and beautiful while coming together as a whole to showcase the clients style with our signature complete look. Our clients love the “polished” look and also appreciate that we listen to their wants and needs. They will be waking up in these spaces daily so our clients vision for their home is so important to us.

Q: Who/Where do you offer your design services to?

DLC Team: We offer our design services to ANYONE looking to update and beautify their surroundings to be a true reflection of themselves. While most of our clients are in California. We offer design services wherever our clients take us. Many of our clients own vacation homes so these out of town projects are definitely our favorites.

Q: As a mother and daughter team do you ever have different opinions on designs?

DLC Team: 💯%! We definitely agree more than we disagree but when we disagree we get a little competitive. Who doesn't like a little competition?!? If we have a difference of opinion on a piece of furniture or the design direction for a space we will present both to our client and see which option the client selects. Our clients love it and always want to know who won the competition :)

Q: Where do you get inspiration for designs?

DLC Team: We get inspired by details in our daily surroundings, traveling to new cities, restaurants, and newly constructed commercial spaces.

 
 

Q: Who is this space for?

DLC Team: This space was designed for a hard working couple and soon to be empty nesters. Our clients had a vision for their home and they wanted to make sure their forever home was a reflection of the things they love and their lifestyle.

Q: How long did this space take to complete?

DLC Team: This space was built and completed during the pandemic so there were a couple of set backs along the way. Project was finished in 8 months.

Q: What is one element you love in this space the most?

DLC Team: There are many elements we love about this home we helped design along with GA Design Build. Our favorite and the game changer of this home was moving the kitchen to the back of the house and creating an open floor plan. The kitchen became the show stopper and a great space for our clients to host family and friends.
