East Coast based Interior Designer, Shoshanna Shapiro, gave us a peek around one of her recent kitchen remodels. Get to know Shoshanna in this EFL Q&A!
Q: How long have you been an interior designer?
Shoshanna: I have been in the industry since 2000 but I started Sho and Co in 2019.
Q: What is your design aesthetic?
Shoshanna: Our aesthetic will differ depending on our clients needs but overall, most of our clients are drawn to the earthy-luxurious vibe most of our work embraces. Our designs gravitate towards earth tones and neutrals that have a bespoke feel with plenty of texture and interest balanced in a mix of natural materials.
Q: Who/Where do you offer your design services to?
Shoshanna: We offer services all over the US but primarily in DC, VA and MD.
Q: Who is this space for?
Shoshanna: This particular space is for a family that really lives in their home. They do not want to tiptoe around priceless objects but want quality and durability in every element of the home. They embrace living and love to entertain. This is a very active household, and every room of this home is utilized to its fullest. Quality and durability matched with optimal comfort is a must.
Q: How long did this space take to complete?
Shoshanna: We are currently working on phase 2 of this project. In total, we have renovated the whole home and are going on 2+ years of service with these clients... just cant get enough of us, haha!
Q: What is one element you love about this space the most?
Shoshanna: The kitchen is such a strong working component of how a family functions in their space and the kitchen overall is my favorite room in the home for that reason. The chairs by Essentials for Living are a vital hub of this home. The comfort they provide this family and the moments that will be enjoyed in those chairs make them my favorite element in this space hands down!
Q: Where do you get inspiration for designs?
Shoshanna: I pull most of my inspiration from nature. Homes should fill the scenes and create a feeling of depth and soul that reflects the people who live there. Nature provides all of these elements in balance and style so we always want to celebrate that feeling within our designs. I also pull my inspiration from my background as an artist. Art is so individual and everyone has their own interpretation of what speaks to them and how it makes them feel. Understanding the lens of which the client sees the world is always the starting inspiration for each project.
